The “old DC” lost another icon with Brown’s passing yesterday. From the Post obit - “He smiled a bit, and I asked my dad, “You know Chuck?” “Everyone who grew up then does,” he said. “It was a different time then.”

“Detroit’s Otherworldly Decay (with Slideshow)” by Julie Dermansky (Atlantic Monthly)
Municipal bankruptcy and privatization of formerly-public services is a troubling trend in some of the US’ once-magnificent cities.  Detroit is a laboratory for the latest round of bondholder/market driven policy experiments.  This is not going to end well.  Just ask London’s rail passengers.
